What are the Progress Awards?

The Missourian Progress Awards recognize the people who help make Columbia a great place to live and move us forward every year. This is our second awards program designed to lift up people who are engaged in our community and who may not be recognized for their contributions otherwise.

How long have the Progress Awards been around?

The Progress Awards were started in 2017. So far, there has been one round of winners.

Can I nominate people to win an award?

Yes, you can nominate anyone in Columbia to win one of the awards in any of the 10 categories.

What is the criteria for the winners?

The winners will be judged on their impact on the community. Multiple nominations for one person tell us that they are truly making a difference.

When is the deadline to nominate?

For the 2018 Progress Awards, the deadline to nominate is September 27, 2018.

What are the categories to nominate people in?

The categories to win awards in include: education, health care, social justice, arts, sustainability, entrepreneurship, philanthropy, civic engagement and corporate citizenship. There is also a category for the Sherman Brown Award that will be given to someone who serves his or her neighbors, patrons or customers with the highest esteem and commitment to treating each and every person like gold.
